It might sound odd to compare three gaming consoles Nintendo vs Playstation vs Xbox . Especially, since the latter is not much of a traditional game console and is more likely based on cutting-edge technology. However, not everyone can spend thousands to get them all. And hence, it’s a tricky choice.

If you’re fairly new to gaming, you might be comparing the portability of Nintendo Switch and, the exclusive game appeal of the PS5 and XBox Ecosystem.

It gets inconvenient sometimes when you try to weigh the pros and cons. Hence, in this article, we will help you figure out these differences to make the right choice.

Microsoft Xbox Series X

Microsoft Xbox Series X

Xbox Series X is one of the most promising platforms of video game consoles developed by Microsoft. It was released in late 2020 with high-caliber hardware along with unique qualities to give players the ultimate gaming experience.

CPU: A particularly focused special AMD Zen 2 8-core CPU with a frequency of up to 3.8 GHz (3.66 GHz with SMT)

GPU: Custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU with 12 teraflops, 52 CUs at 1.825 GHz

Storage: 1TB NVMe PCIe Gen 4.0 Custom SSD (Optional expansion storage is available)

Optical Drive: Optical drive 4k UHD Blu-ray

Raw Power: The Xbox series X has high-end computational power and graphical processing that would provide high frame rates and high resolution in the next-gen games.

Blazing Speed: NVMe offers the latest generation of premium solid-state drives, making loading times much faster than generations before, this means less time waiting and more time playing.

Quick Resume: Of course, this little vagary allows switching during multiple games without being concerned about a loss of progress, which is very useful if you are keen on both gaming and doing other things simultaneously.

Backward Compatibility: One of these features that may excite you is the backward compatibility of the Xbox Series X and S, which permits game playing on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and even on the original Xbox games on the same console.

Game Pass Integration: Xbox Game Pass is a subscription-based service from Microsoft where members get Screaming Day and new games added to the library each month. This is particularly important to gamers because it offers them a wide choice of games and services, thus providing them with immense value.

Bulkier Design: The Xbox Series X on the other hand boasts a large and rather industrial look that might not make it conducive for small gaming areas.

Limited Launch Titles: Yet looking at the library the launch window of the Xbox Series X was somewhat more narrow in terms of exclusive next-gen titles compared to the closest competitor, PlayStation 5.

Expensive Proprietary Storage: Upgrading the amount of storage space on the console is a costly affair due to the need to acquire higher-capacity proprietary storage cards.

Games Provided:

The Xbox Series X itself does not include any games, but Microsoft wants consumers to get its Xbox Game Pass service. Also, this service provides a monthly subscription service with a large download library containing current and future releases.

The Xbox Series X also sits within the expected price point for what a current-gen console can cost, currently at USD 499. But, the extra expense of storage magnification and potential Game Pass subscription needs to be added to the general price tag.

Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch OLED

Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch OLED

Switch and Switch OLED are portable gaming consoles with the ability to be played as portable devices as well as be connected to a larger screen TV. However, let’s figure out what the main differences between these two.

1. Display and Design:

Nintendo Switch: The original Switch has a 6-inch screen size, though it has changed to a newer model. 2-inch LCD touchscreen display. The gaps around the screen are relatively broad, and provide it with the look of an old-school handheld gaming console.

Nintendo Switch OLED: This upgraded version has a screen size of 7 inches, using OLED technology with much slimmer bezel. This leads to lighter glasses and more engaging and deep direct vision.

2. Specs:

Processor and RAM: The pricing structure is also the same for the two consoles with both using a Nvidia Tegra custom processor as well as 4 GB of RAM.

Storage: The first-generation Switch has 32 GB of internal storage built-in, while the OLED model offers a more substantial 64 GB.

Dock: The Gamester and its competitors have a docking station through which you can connect them to your television to experience console video gaming. The dock of the OLED model has a wired LAN connection, which is more reliable than the Wi-Fi used in the original Switch.

3. Pros:

Versatility: Both consoles can be used as portable devices while being connected to your television set for a more convenient gaming experience.

Vast Game Library: The Switch has hundreds of games available for the console. Some of these are available only on this console, such as the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Joy-Con Controllers: The Joy-Con controllers are highly detachable and offer fun to several players while featuring fabulous gameplay designs.

4. Cons:

Battery Life: In terms of battery life, both consoles provide good backups; however, backups can differ based on the game you are using.

Original Switch Storage: The 32GB of storage in the original Switch may not seem small, but it does not take long for it to be filled up and thus needs an extra microSD card for, well, most folks.

OLED Model Price: The major distinction between the Switch OLED and the original Switch is that the former will be sold at a significantly higher price compared to the latter.

5. Games Provided:

Each console does not come with any game included in the package. But you can grab physical Nintendo Switch game cartridges or opt for digital ones on the Nintendo eShop.

6. Affordability:

Nintendo Switch: To look at it critically, the original Switch is cheaper compared to the new Switch, which makes it ideal for those who are sensitive to the price of investing in gaming consoles.

Nintendo Switch OLED: The OLED version is slightly more expensive mainly because of the enhanced screen functionality and the increased capacity of the storage devices.

Sony PlayStation 5

Sony PlayStation 5

The Sony PlayStation 5, also famously known as the PS5 is the newest part of the PlayStation gaming consoles user series. It was released in late 2020. It packs robust hardware as well as phenomenal features aimed at enhancing the gaming experience.

CPU: AMD Zen2 8-core CPU is also included and has a clock speed of 3.5GHz

GPU: AMD RDNA 2 custom GPU with 10.28 teraflops

Storage: This deal comes with/installation of 825GB NVMe SSD for data storage, out of which the usable capacity is approximately 667GB.

Optical Drive: Additional features include the Blu-ray disc drive which is available with the Disc Edition and no physical media with the Digital Edition.

Resolution: It is capable of streaming up to 8K resolutions and can natively run games at 4K with up to 120 frames per second.

Blazing-Fast Speeds: In the PS5, you get a custom-built SSD that provides very fast loading times making it impossible to have to wait for minutes or even a few seconds between sequences in a game.

Immersive Experience: The DualSense features haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that will bring players closer to reality while playing the game. Try to sense how tightly the bow or the string tensioned or how loudly the footfall sounded on this/these surface(s).

Stunning Visuals: The excellent hardware outcome enables high-definition textures and outputs, ray tracing for accurate illuminating, and higher frames per second for a smooth gaming experience.

Backward Compatibility: PlayStation 4 games are fully backward compatible with PlayStation 5, which is why you may be able to go back to older games you had on the previous console or have a set of games that you never got around to playing on the new one.

Limited Storage: True, the 825GB SSD might seem inadequate given the heft of current game file sizes. It may be time to address storage management, especially if you are out of space or need offsite storage solutions.

Availability: The PS5 has inflated prices which is why it has been difficult to find with most of the devices being sold at inflated prices.

Price: The PS5 belongs to a new generation of gaming consoles. This is reflected by its relatively high price compared to previous generations.

Games Provided:

The PS5 boasts a growing library of games. It consists of titles like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and the Demon’s Souls remake. Additionally, some third-party games are available across different platforms and can be played on the PS5. Several of them come with better textures or better frame rates.

That said, the PS5 hardware is cheaper in a way to some extent. In terms of dock, it is costly more than its predecessor known as the PS4 due to the use of modern technology. Although for people who want the best of the best,  in terms of performance, graphics, and functions, the PS5 is ahead of the Xbox Series X.
