The next iPhone generation: iPhone 16 has been circling the Apple market for quite a long time now. However, it is stated to be launched in September this year. The iPhone 16 line, much like all other previous lines is supposed to offer four variations: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. It is rumored that the youngest Apple family member will be coming with modifications in design and camera updates.
Expected software features in iPhone 16
The 2024 iPhone babies are supposed to run on an iOS 18 Operating system as was announced in June. These iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are supposed to be more affordable than the others. They are supposed to be powered by A18 Bionic chipset. The Pro models – iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are tipped to come equipped with an A18 Pro Processor.
Expected design in iPhone 16
The upcoming iPhone 16 series is rumored to bring back Apple’s notorious vertically-aligned camera modules. The latest iPhone series features a horizontally aligned camera setup. Apple is also rumored to bring traditional physical buttons with capacitive, touch-sensitive buttons. These stimulate the feel of pressing a real button.
In addition to that, the action button present in iPhone 15 Pro models is rumored to come with standard and the plus models this year – iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
The mute switch on the left side of the iPhone is supposed to be replaced with Action Switch. The iPhone 16 models will adopt the same button that was once introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro models. The Action button will remain on top of the volume buttons.
The MagSafe alignment magnets in the iPhone 16 models may be slimmer than before, cutting down on the size of the magnetic ring required for MagSafe-compatible cases.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have larger display sizes, hence, it might be insinuated that the dimensions of the iPhone’s body shall also increase. General shape and design might not be updated however, the bezels shall be slimmer.

It is expected that the iPhone 16 series to feature bigger screen displays for the Pro models. The display size in iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus is expected to be around 6.1 inches to 6.7 inches, however, there could be a jump in refresh rate. In the pros – iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the display size is expected to be around 6.3 – 6.9 inches.
There are mixed rumors about the colors of iPhone 16. Some even claim that it is supposed to come in seven colors – blue, pink, yellow, green, black, white, and purple. Ming Chi-Kuo, Apple analyst believes that the iPhone 16 series will be available in the following colors: black, green, blue, pink, and white with no purple or yellow iPhone 16 in sight.
Things You Must Have with iPhone 16
The iPhone 16 models are expected to adopt the same color-infused back glass as was used in the iPhone 15 models. The rear glass layer shall feature a frosted effect that contrasts with the main frame color.
The iPhone 16 OLED panels could use micro-lens technology for both improved brightness and reduced power consumption. Micro-lens arrays (MLAs) use a uniform pattern of billions of lenses inside the panel to reduce internal reflection. The reflected light increases perceived brightness without increasing power consumption.
Apple is going to use Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology for some of the iPhone 16 models which is expected to result in slimmer bezels. It is not clear if the slimmer bezels will be applied throughout the whole iPhone 16 lineup or be limited to the iPhone 16 Pros. BRS allows for a more compact and efficient layout of the circuitry under the display. This helps in preparing thinner bezels without affecting display performance.
There might be modifications in the Face ID systems in the iPhone 16 models, but it is still a secret what these modifications could be.
Expected camera in iPhone 16
It is without doubt that the iPhone 16 series might come with a few camera upgrades. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo insinuates that Apple might bring the tetra prism lens, as held exclusively by the iPhone 15. Now it might be available in iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The tetra prism might help the camera to zoom in 5 times more than normal. After testing several designs for the standard iPhone 16 models, they decided on a vertically aligned camera system with a pill-shaped camera bump. iPhones have been known for their square-shaped camera bump to accommodate the diagonal lenses. However, Apple might slim down the camera bump with the new lens arrangement.
The pill-shaped bump is supposed to separate the Wide and ultra-wide lenses. The microphone is supposed to be next to the lenses, while the camera flash shall be located on the back of the device outside the bump.
The right side of the device will be featuring a new Capture button in place of the mmWave antenna on the prior iPhone models in USA. It is located in a spot which is easy to press when the iPhone is in a landscape orientation. The mmWave antenna is to be moved to the bottom left side in iPhone 16.
Aside from the new vertical lens arrangement and the Capture Button, the iPhone 16 models will have the same design as the iPhone 15 models with no notable changes to body shape or size.
